first week of school!

My first week of school is finally over! Thank goodness. I only have class on Tuesday and Thursday, which is seriously so nice!
This is what I saw while I was sitting in my Spanish class early Tuesday morning. Can you tell I really love pink?!
When I got into class at about 7:45 am Tuesday morning, I was the first one there. Kids started coming in (the class started at 8) and we were all just chit-chatting until the professor showed up. The guy sitting next to me was a little older which isn't too uncommon in a big university. He was asking if this was Spanish 330 (yes) and if we thought the class would be difficult (hopefully not). Anyway, so were all sitting here talking about the class and how much we hate speaking Spanish, and the guy next to me stands up and says, "Hola clase! Soy su profesor. Bienvenido al espaƱol 330.." Hi class, I'm your professor welcome to Spanish 330.  Cool. He tricked us and I ended up telling my professor how much I hate speaking Spanish. Solid way to start off the semester! Haha. He ended up being pretty cool though and the class seems easy. Which is good :)

I live in an apartment about a mile and a half from campus. They have a shuttle that goes to and from campus and the university because parking at school is crazy expensive. So Monday I had to go on campus to turn in some paperwork and I was waiting for the shuttle after. 2:00...no shuttle. 2:30...still no shuttle. 3:00 where the hell is the shuttle?! I met up with my roommates and we called the apartment to find out that it had broken down. Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. Luckily, my uncle was in town so he gave us a ride home! There's no way we could've walked in the 120 degree weather!
I got home and I was so exhausted so I had a yummy iced coffee in a mason jar :) Mmm!

Tuesday, the Kindness Club had a table on the mall (our big grassy area) and I had to sit outside for like two hours. It was SO hot. And I got a sweet farmer's tan. On one arm. Cool.

Can you tell its been a good week?!

Tuesday afternoon the shuttle didn't come AGAIN. It was about an hour late. Double awesome.

On top of allll of that, my handsome man still hasn't gotten his orders. Hopefully he'll get them Tuesday and he'll be home in a couple of weeks. It's so frustrating because they've been saying "Oh you'll get them Wednesday" and on Wednesday..."Oh tomorrow for sure" Now it's Friday and no orders. It's so hard to stay positive and realize he's coming home so soon when there's no date and no certainty.

Sorry that this is such a negative post, it's been a crazy hellish week. On the bright side, Pretty Little Liars was SO INTENSE. That was the highlight of my week for sure.

Isn't he cute?! I make him watch so many girly shows with me...poor guy! He's such a trooper

Anyway, I'm just trying to take things day by day and each night I go to bed thankful for what I have and thankful that I'm one day closer to being in my handsome man's arms.

I hope everyone's week went well! Enjoy the weekend :)

Highlights from last week

Eli from Coach Daddy wrote an awesome post about a parade that he will be attending with his daughter. She thinks it will bring her fame, but what she doesn't know is that she's about to learn a huge life lesson. He's an amazing writer, be sure to check his blog out!

Amy from Wildflower Ramblings wrote a post that really hit close to home about not getting sucked into the vortex that is the internet. Which is so easy to do for bloggers. She wrote up a set of rules for herself that she's going to follow in order to be more present with her family. Great post!

Tiffany from A Touch of Grace shared a DIY craft that I loved! Making book covers using fabric - it looks easy enough that even I could likely pull it off! Definitely going to give it a try.

never ever ever!

Things I'll never ever ever do... hmm :)

Understand why textbooks are so expensive. I went to buy my books for class today. $550?! Are you kidding me? I'm already paying thousands to attend school itself, I don't need to spend another thousand a year on textbooks. And then when you try to sell them back after the semester they barely give you any money back. It's insane!

Forget my summer in Europe. It was truly unforgettable. I still think about it every day and wish I was back. But maybe that's just because I miss my handsome man so much! :) You can read about my trip here.

Take my life for granted. I have been blessed with so much. I go to a good school, I have great friends, and I have the perfect boyfriend! [You can read our love story here.] It's so easy to get caught up and complain about the small, unimportant things. I try to remember every day just how blessed I am and how lucky I am to have such amazing people in my life.

Forget the distance. Right now my handsome man and I are in a long distance relationship. It makes our relationship so much stronger, and it makes us appreciate each other so much more. Once were together every single day [hopefully in a year and a half :)] one thing I promised myself I'll never do is forget these hard times. I'll never forget the ache I feel in my heart when I miss him, or being SO excited just to Skype him, and the feeling when we're finally reunited. I never want to forget these things that right now are so hard to get through because it's really been a blessing in disguise. We don't take each other for granted, and keeping these things in mind, we never will.

kindness

Happy Monday everyone! Today was the first day of class! Woo hoo :) Tomorrow on campus we have an 'involvement fair' where all of the clubs have tables on the mall (our big huge grassy area in the middle of campus).
I guess Tucson can be pretty sometimes :)

Anyway, I started a club last year called the Kindness Club. I know, it sounds kind of lame, but it's actually pretty powerful. We work with an organization called The Ben's Bells Project. This organization is huge in Tucson. Everyone knows about it.
Here's the run down: This woman lost a son at a very young age. His name was Ben. Throughout her grieving, she realized what a difference a small, random act of kindness could make. So she started this organization. You can go help at their studio where they paint bells and kindness coins and stuff and they circulate throughout the community. You can read about them on the website. Please read the story and about everything they do. It's really powerful :)
Here are some of the bells from the studio. There's also coins that you hand someone who does a random act of kindness. Then they pass it on, and so forth.

This is one of the many benches around Tucson. They also have murals around the city and at local schools. It's pretty awesome :)
The power of kindness is something that's really important to me. [I'll probably do a more extensive post on this later.] I think its amazing that the simplest act of kindness can change someone's day- or even their life.
Taking an extra two seconds to hold the store, flashing a friendly smile, appreciating things that others do for you- it's all so easy- and so powerful!
So tomorrow we're advertising the club at the involvement fair and I'm so excited to recruit new members!
Yay for signs!

I hope everyone enjoys their week and being back to school! :)

quick crafts

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great Saturday :) I can't believe tomorrow is my last day of summer! It flies by so fast!
I just wanted to share a couple super quick things I'm really excited about!

Painted and distressed mason jars! I'm so in love with these! You can use them for literally anything! Flowers, pencils, make-up brushes, whatever! They're so easy too. You can buy them at my etsy shop. These ones here I'm about to ship out. It's hard to see the colors in the picture but they're mint and coral and they're so adorable! :) I made a couple extra for myself!!

I went on a Michaels run, and I found these plain mugs.
I've always seen cute ideas on Pinterest about writing on a mug in Sharpie and then putting it in the oven. So I wanted to give it a try :)
So I drew Montana and Arizona, with little hearts where our cities are and our initials in them.
(Yes, my handsome man is in Germany right now but he's going to live in Montana soon)
And the saying, "Distance means so little when someone means so much" On the other side.

I can't wait to give it to him :) I'm going to make him a 'Welcome Home' basket when he comes and I'll be putting this in there!!

five on friday

Happy Friday everyone! Here's a little something from The Good Life called Five on Friday!

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG
one this time next week I'll be done with my first week of my sophomore year of college! that's insane. It feels like just yesterday I was graduating high school!

I can't believe that was almost two years ago!

two I'm really obsessing over Luke Bryan's new CD still. It's basically been on repeat since I got it, and I'm notcomplaining about that!

three Trucks. Right now my handsome man owns a really nice Mustang and I must say, its pretty sexy. He's selling it though, and getting a truck instead. Am I the only one that thinks there's nothing sexier than a guy in a "big black jacked up truck"? (Hehe, Luke Bryan quote-sorry!) So anyway, when he comes home we're going truck shopping and I can't wait. It's cute because he's so excited about it. Today he said, "It's the truck that we're going to have forever! Our kids will sit in the back seat of that truck!" I love him.

four I went to the Tucson Mall today and we visited the Victoria's Secret! Where has that store been all my life! I'm a little obsessed with anything VS, and this is by far the biggest and best Victoria's Secret I've ever been in! They literally have everything! I hate going to one store and they don't have what the others do. This one is for sure my go-to VS from now on. I'm in love!

Speaking of love....
five [saving the most important for last!] The wait is almost over. I know I keep complaining about not knowing when Dj will be home. It's so frustrating not having a date! But there's nothing we can do. I woke up today missing him SO much. I was really upset. But then I think that within three weeks, I'll be in his arms again! That's nothing. I guess it's just hard to feel like its so close when there's no specific date to look forward to. But the point of this is that I get to see him so soon!
Gosh, he's so handsome!

Well, there you have it! Happy Friday everyone, enjoy the weekend! :)

happies and crappies

I'm always looking for ways to get my blog out there, find blogs I love, and to meet other bloggers! Linkups are my go-to! I found this one today from The Vintage Modern Wife where you share the 'happies' and 'crappies' of your week and so here we go!
The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up
Happies:
  • I'm finally settled into my apartment! You can see some pics here. I'm really excited about all of the DIY decor I have all around my room and bathroom, and I totally love my roomies so it's pretty awesome.
  • I got CPR certified this week because I got a job! I'll be working as a nanny soon, so I had to get first aid and CPR certified. I learned a lot of important life-saving stuff!

Crappies:
  • I had to go into work today to fill out paperwork (it's a nanny service). Its about a 20 minute drive from my apartment and as soon as I got home, I realized I left my driver's license there. Awesome. Now I have to go all the way back there tomorrow to pick it up! Yay for wasting gas!
  • I miss my handsome man so much :( Some days are so much harder than others. You can read our story here and how we deal with the distance in this post. Were still waiting for him to get his orders so he can find out when he gets to come home! The distance is hard enough- not knowing when you're going to see each other next only makes it harder.
It's been an uneventful week here, so I don't have too many happies or crappies! Hopefully next week my happy can be knowing when Dj comes home! :)

CPR certified!

That's right! I'm officially CPR and First Aid certified! I just sat through a three hour class (yay) which could potentially help me save a life someday!

I was definitely dreading it, just because I knew I'd probably be bored, but it wasn't too bad! The guy that taught the class is a firefighter, so he had some pretty exciting stories!
So the first half of the class we watched some videos and learned all about first aid. We learned how to stop bleeding, what to do in case of a heart attack, stroke, and seizure victim, and how to treat burns. Then we got to use these awesome dummies
It was fun! We got to practice compressions and abdomen thrusts (for choking)
30 compressions, 2 breaths
Five times
We also practiced 100 straight compressions with no breathing (which you use on adults only)
My arms will be sore tomorrow.

I definitely recommend everyone takes a class. Whether you need to get certified or not, it's definitely something good to have. You never know when someone else's life could end up in your hands, and its always best to be prepared. You can find classes here.

PS still no orders today, maybe tomorrow will be the day! Keep your fingers crossed :)

pancakes and painting

Well, today was another uneventful day in Tucson. I did start my day off right with some chocolate chip pancakes though :)
I think I ate the entire plate of them....

We put them on a big plate as we were making them. Can you tell I started eating before we even took them off the plate? :) I couldn't help myself they're sooo good!

And thanks to the roomie's nifty coffee machine, I had some yummy coffee in my favorite 'Good Morning' mug :) I don't like having matching mugs! I have 4 different mugs that I got from who knows where and they're all I use. The ones that match my dishes in a set just sit in the cabinet :)

After breakfast, when the boredom began to set in, I decided to craft some more! I did a post last week about a DIY chalkboard, and this is kind of similar to that. We wanted something to hang on an empty wall right when you walk into the apartment.
So I hit up the craft crate (which you can buy here)
And here's what I came up with.
I hot glued two foam boards together (just because they were smaller than I wanted them to be) and painted them with chalk paint. [I'm still afraid of a hot glue gun because when I was in Germany I dropped a glob on my finger and had a wicked blister from it!]

Then I used this sparkly blue ribbon that I had and glued it around one half of the board.

We're going to use the framed half as a message board, and the bottom half to put our mail!
I used a Sharpie paint pen to write 'mail'- not chalk.
All I need to find now is a cute basket to attach to the bottom to hold the actual mail! I'll definitely keep you updated once I finish it :) I'm also thinking about writing 'leave a message...' at the top of the framed half!

So I'm pretty excited about that. I ended my night with a quick workout and a yummy smoothie! I guess it turned out to be a pretty good day :) The only thing that would've made it better would be if my handsome man would've finally gotten his orders! Still waiting to find out when he can come home...not knowing definitely makes it much harder. But I'm keeping my head up!
